Live Events and Fun with Snoop Dogg: 2024 Paris Olympics Broadcast Coverage

“We’re going to have fun y’all.”

This is how rapper and TV personality Snoop Dogg describes his expectations for the 2024 Summer Olympics, which kick off this Friday.

While Snoop has his own thoughts about his involvement, Molly Solomon, Executive Producer & President of Olympics Production at NBC, is focused on the comprehensive broadcasting of the Games.

A 13-time Emmy Award winner, Solomon is overseeing her third Olympics as EP. Her journey began as a researcher for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Discussing NBC’s planned coverage, she mentioned, “The network is going to be live all day, no holding back.”

She elaborated further, saying, “All of the most popular sports finals in swimming, gymnastics, and track and field will be live all afternoon on NBC. This marks a significant shift from London 2012, where many of these events were held for primetime.”

During the nightly primetime broadcast, Solomon noted that NBC will present ‘a curated presentation’ featuring the day’s best performances ‘distilled down to three hours.’

The production team will have ten news crews ready to respond to trending stories.

“We’re ready to pivot, but it all starts with a great plan,” Solomon stated.

In an interesting twist, NBC has enlisted Snoop Dogg to be a key part of the broadcast team for the 2024 Games.

“We’re planning on shaking it up in many different ways, bringing my flavor. It’s the Olympics, y’all. This is the biggest sporting event. We only get it once every four years, so we’re going to make the most of it,” said Snoop.

Reflecting on the first time he truly became aware of the Olympics, Snoop recalled watching track star Edwin Moses dominate the 1984 Games held in Los Angeles.

“I just remember him running and winning, and we celebrated as if he was our uncle or something. We were so happy. That’s what the Olympics does. It makes you feel like you’re part of the win. I just remember how my whole family was watching as if we knew this man. That was my first impression of the Olympics. Hopefully, we can do the same thing.”

At the recent Olympic Trials, the 17-time Grammy nominee even tried competing in the 200-meter event.

Despite his competitive spirit, Snoop views the Olympics as more than just a sports competition.

“I think it’s very special because it’s a time when the whole world can come together and cheer for their countries and specific athletes. At the same time, we come together as one, as America. Often, the world is divided, but this is a chance for the world to unite, to cheer for each other, and to root for each other. So it’s actually like a peace offering.”

He added, “I’m honored to be here because I always represent peace. I love sports, I love the Olympics. For me to be part of it is only going to make it more peaceful and more passionate.”

NBC and Peacock will feature live coverage of the Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 26, starting at Noon ET. Telemundo will provide Spanish-language coverage beginning at 1 p.m. ET. Primetime coverage will start at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and Peacock. The NBC broadcast network and streaming service Peacock will be the company’s primary platforms for its coverage of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, scheduled from July 26 to August 11.
