Living Cast Members of Welcome Back, Kotter

Improvisational stand-up comedian Charles Fleischer found himself in a unique position when it came to ABC sitcoms during the 1970s and 1980s. He frequently appeared as bully Carvelli in the first couple of seasons of “Welcome Back, Kotter.” His role became more prominent during Season 4 when John Travolta reduced his involvement with the show. Carvelli, initially an antagonist, eventually became friends with the Sweathogs after transferring to James Munroe High, joining in their antics rather than opposing them.

After “Welcome Back, Kotter” ended, Fleischer transitioned to “Aloha, Paradise,” accompanied by Stephen Shortridge. When “Aloha, Paradise” concluded, Fleischer moved on to “Laverne & Shirley.” In this series, he played the eccentric, literal space cadet, Chuck, adding a quirky element to the show in its later stages. A few years later, Fleischer secured one of his most renowned roles, significantly launching his voiceover career as Roger Rabbit in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”

This role marked the beginning of a fruitful relationship with Disney. Fleischer’s portrayal of Roger Rabbit proved to be a breakout moment, and he continued to voice Roger Rabbit and various other characters for Disney. Apart from his work with Disney, he collaborated with numerous other studios, maintaining a dynamic acting career that included film appearances and guest roles on TV shows.

Fleischer didn’t restrict his talents solely to acting and voice work. He continued to thrive as a comedian and digital artist, consistently engaging with audiences online. His multi-faceted career showcases not only his versatility but also his ability to adapt and evolve within the entertainment industry.

Fleischer remains an active figure in the world of entertainment, connecting with fans through various mediums and continuing to leave an indelible mark with his performances and artistic endeavors.
