Aug. 16 (UPI) — Neon announced Friday that the horror film Longlegs has surpassed $100 million at the worldwide box office, with $72 million of that coming from the United States and Canada.
Longlegs premiered on July 12, initially coming in second place with $22.6 million, just behind Despicable Me 4. As of now, Longlegs has outperformed Parasite‘s $53.4 million domestic gross, making it Neon’s highest-grossing film and the top independent movie of 2024, as well as the past decade.
Nicolas Cage stars as Longlegs, a serial killer who prompts his victims into committing murder-suicides. In an interview with UPI, writer and director Osgood Perkins shared that Cage perfectly embodied the character he had envisioned.
Maika Monroe plays Lee Harker, the FBI agent on Longlegs’ trail. Monroe describes the film as a blend of elements from Silence of the Lambs and Se7en, infused with supernatural horror.
Alicia Witt portrays Lee’s mother, and she noted an intuitive bond with Cage in bringing their characters to life. Witt’s character is under Longlegs’ influence, adding another layer to the gripping plot.
Perkins recently directed The Monkey for Neon, and Monroe is set to star in and produce They Follow, a sequel to her previous horror hit It Follows.
