Lorde Sparks Fan Frenzy in NYC with Dev Hynes as Fourth Album Rumors Swirl

Rarely seen popstar Lorde and Blood Orange sent fans into a frenzy on Monday after they were spotted taking a very friendly stroll together in New York City.

The New Zealand-born hitmaker, 27, and UK record producer, whose real name is Devonté Hynes, 38, have been rumored to be collaborating on Lorde’s long-awaited fourth album since they were first seen together in February 2023.

The talented pair, who have been spotted together numerous times over the last 18 months, dressed down as they went for a stroll in New York.

Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, shielded her eyes with a pair of black sunglasses and appeared to be laughing so hard that she steadied herself by placing a hand on Dev’s bicep as they walked.

She wore a black tank top, black pants, and ballet flats for the casual outing, while Dev sported a loose-fitting T-shirt, brown trousers, sneakers, and a baseball cap.

The famed record producer, who first fueled rumors of a collaboration by posting a snap of the Royals singer to his Instagram Stories in 2023, was grinning from ear to ear as he chatted with the brunette beauty.

He appeared to be deep in thought as he told the Kiwi singer a story as they crossed the street.

Dev smirked as he hit his punchline and his friend burst out in laughter.

Pop star Lorde and her rumored fourth album collaborator Dev Hynes, also known as Blood Orange, were spotted having a big laugh on a friendly walk in New York on Monday

Under the moniker Blood Orange, the legendary record producer has collaborated with and written music for the likes of Tinashe, Solange Knowles, FKA twigs, Florence and the Machine and A$AP Rocky.

Ever since Lorde performed some unreleased songs during her festival sets last summer, fans have been dying to know if her untitled fourth album, L4, is coming down the release pipeline.

If the internet rumor mill is to be believed, this latest sighting of her and Dev could indicate the album may be announced soon.

Eagle-eyed fans also spotted Dev posting a new photo with Lorde to his Instagram Story on March 4 during Paris Fashion Week.

She was also spotted at his gig in New York’s Baby’s All Right venue in 2022 and has been hanging out with him since 2021.

For the most part, the singer has been living a pretty low-key existence since her last album, Solar Power, came out in 2021.

Fans were shocked and delighted when the famously reclusive star made an appearance at Brat Summer queen Charli XCX’s star-studded 32nd birthday bash in Los Angeles last month.

On August 13, the pop star wiped both her X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram account of previous posts, with fans speculating the move indicates new music is incoming.

Fellow songstress and industry bestie Taylor Swift has been known to use a similar strategy when releasing a new album, and Lorde has also been posting cryptically of late.

While her social media might be looking like a ghost town, the Tennis Court singer made sure to leave a tidbit about what she’s got planned.

Her Instagram bio contains a quote from Joan Didion’s Slouching Towards Bethlehem: “THE THEMES ARE ALWAYS THE SAME— A RETURN TO INNOCENCE— THE MYSTERIES OF THE BLOOD— AN ITCH FOR THE TRANSCENDENTAL.”

It’s not the first cryptic message the singer has posted to her social media this year, either.

In June, the brunette beauty posted a series of mysterious photos to her Instagram seemingly to tease the release of new music.

In February 2023, Lorde confirmed to New Zealand’s Ensemble magazine that work has begun on L4.

“It has taken me quite a while [to start working on it]. I mean, I do just take a long time… I do a lot of research, I write a lot down.

“Sort of a big chunk of work before I actually start writing music. So yeah, that’s been a really big part of it. It’s been super exciting and I feel excited about what’s coming.”

When asked whether fans are looking at another four-year wait, she said: “You know, it’s my intention, it’s always my intention, to move as quickly as I f…ing can and then that ends up taking different forms. But this one, I really am trying to. I don’t want to wait, you know, so take from that what you will.”

Lorde currently has three albums to her name. She broke out at 16 years old with her debut album, Pure Heroine, in 2013.

In 2017, she released Melodrama, her second album, to widespread acclaim — earning an album of the year nomination for it.

Solar Power, her third album, was released in 2021 to mixed reviews, having embraced a more upbeat and pared-back tone to her previous work.
