Luke Perry’s Daughter Shares Throwback Photo of Shannen Doherty

Gone but not forgotten. Shannen Doherty received a touching tribute from Sophie Perry, the daughter of her late Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star, Luke Perry, following her passing on Saturday.

Sophie Perry, 24, honored Doherty with a heartfelt post on her Instagram Story. She shared a nostalgic photo showing the former co-stars in a sepia-toned shot, both beaming with joy. In the image, Luke playfully holds Doherty’s necklace between his teeth while Sophie added a simple white heart emoji to convey her sentiments.

The duo had previously portrayed the iconic love interests Brenda Walsh and Dylan McKay on the beloved TV show.

Doherty, also renowned for her role as Prue Halliwell on Charmed, passed away on Saturday, July 13, after a prolonged battle with cancer. She was 53 years old.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress, Shannen Doherty,” the actress’s longtime publicist, Leslie Sloane, shared in a statement. “On Saturday, July 13th she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.”

The statement continued, “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was surrounded by her loved ones, including her dog, Bowie. The family requests privacy during this time to grieve in peace.”

In June, Doherty had emotionally revealed on her Let’s Be Clear podcast that she would undergo chemotherapy as her stage 4 breast cancer had progressed.

Luke Perry, best known for his roles on Beverly Hills, 90210 and Riverdale, passed away in March 2019 after suffering a “massive stroke.” He was 52 years old.

A source revealed at the time that Sophie was on a humanitarian mission in Africa when her father suffered the stroke. However, she managed to return home to be by his side during his last days.

Doherty later opened up about Luke’s legacy when she reprised her iconic role for the Beverly Hills, 90210 reunion series, BH90210, in his honor.

“I wasn’t attached [before Perry’s death], and it wasn’t long after he passed that I finally decided, ‘OK, yes,'” Doherty revealed. “I thought it would do well with or without me, to be honest. For me, replaying Brenda was something I said I wouldn’t do twice, and I’ve done it now twice, so I guess I can never say never.”

Doherty also guest-starred on one of Perry’s other shows, Riverdale, in a gesture to honor the late actor, acknowledging his significant impact on the ’90s series.

“For me, it felt like honoring him and his memory, recognizing what he meant to the audience, the fans, and all of us,” she said about returning to the role. “As his on-set family, it was essential for all of us to come together to honor him.”

Over the weekend, many of Doherty’s former co-stars paid tribute to her career, life, and friendship.

“So young – so sad. May you RIP Shannon. I know Luke is there with open arms to love you,” Gabrielle Carteris wrote on Instagram.

Jennie Garth also penned an emotional tribute to her late friend.

“I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my long-time friend Shannen, the woman I have often described as one of the strongest people I have ever known,” she wrote. “Our connection was real and honest. We were so often pitted against each other, but none of that reflected the truth of our real relationship, which was built on mutual respect and admiration. She was courageous, passionate, determined, and very loving and generous. I will miss her and will always honor her deeply in my heart and in my memories. My heart breaks for her family and Bowie 💔.”
