Man Arrested for Alleged Threat to Kill Trump on Social Media: Sheriff

An Arizona man has been arrested following an alleged threat made on social media to kill former President Donald Trump, officials have confirmed.

Ronald Lee Syvrud, 66, from Benson, was taken into custody on Thursday without any incidents, according to a spokesperson for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities indicated that Syvrud was wanted due to “suspicious activity.” The sheriff’s office in southeastern Arizona stated that he was being sought as a lead in an investigation related to threats made against a presidential candidate.

While the sheriff’s office did not disclose specific details regarding the threats or mention Trump by name, multiple sources informed ABC News that the threat was directed at the former president.

At the time of the incident, Trump was scheduled to visit the U.S.-Mexico border in Cochise County.

The U.S. Secret Service is monitoring the situation closely. A spokesperson for the agency commented, “The U.S. Secret Service investigates all threats against our protectees. As this is an ongoing investigation, we cannot comment further at this time.”

The FBI has also acknowledged being aware of the incident but has referred all further comments to the local sheriff’s office.

In addition to the threat investigation, Syvrud was wanted for several outstanding warrants. These included failing to appear for a DUI charge in Wisconsin, as well as failing to register as a sex offender and a hit-and-run incident in Graham County, Arizona, as noted by the sheriff’s office.
