Marcia Gay Harden Joins Robert Rippberger’s Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Renner’

Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden has joined the cast of *Renner*, the new sci-fi thriller by writer, director, and producer Robert Rippberger. The *Pollock* and *Mystic River* star will be part of an ensemble that includes Frankie Muniz, Violett Beane, and Taylor Gray.

Harden will lend her voice to Salenus, an artificially intelligent companion created by Renner, a computer genius played by Muniz. The plot focuses on Renner’s attempts to impress his new neighbor Jamie, portrayed by Beane, with Salenus’ aid. However, Renner discovers he has unintentionally encoded his manipulative mother into the AI.

Rippberger is set to direct *Renner* from a script he co-wrote with Martin Medina and Luke Medina. Producing alongside Rippberger are Medina, KT Kent, Devin Keaton, and Jay Burnley from Slated.

In a statement, Rippberger expressed his excitement about Harden’s involvement. “I’m incredibly honored to have an acclaimed performer like Marcia be voice to the very piece of technology that is reshaping Hollywood,” he said. “We have always had oracles in society. AI is yet another diversion to people thinking for themselves, and preserving the human element that makes art distinct and indelible. Marcia is a true artist and has brought great depth to the themes of this film.”

Marcia Gay Harden recently received her second Academy Award nomination for her performance in *The Morning Show* on Apple TV+. She had previously been nominated for her role in *Mystic River*. Additionally, she starred alongside Skylar Astin in the CBS dramedy *So Help Me Todd* and appeared in the Michael Keaton-directed thriller *Knox Goes Away*.

Harden won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her portrayal of Lee Krasner in *Pollock*, a role she took on in 2001, directed and co-starred by Ed Harris.

Harden is represented by CAA, Framework Entertainment, Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham, and The Initiative Group.
