Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell’s New Movie Confirmed for 2025 Release

Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell are gearing up for their new film project, “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” which now has an official release date. Sony has announced the film will hit theaters on May 9, 2025, strategically slotted for Mother’s Day weekend, just a week after the highly-anticipated Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” is set to premiere.

Industry reports reveal that Sony is marketing “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” as a female-focused project. The release date announcement follows the success of Blake Lively’s latest film “It Ends With Us,” which exceeded box office expectations by grossing $50 million worldwide in its opening weekend and surpassing the $100 million mark within its first week. The studio clearly sees potential in female-led films driven by star power, a trend that Margot Robbie’s blockbuster “Barbie” has strongly supported.

“A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” tells the story of two strangers, played by Robbie and Farrell, whose paths cross in unexpected ways. The cast also includes Lily Rabe from “American Horror Story,” Jodie Turner-Smith known for “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” Phoebe Waller-Bridge from “Fleabag” and “Solo,” and Hamish Linklater from “Batman: Caped Crusader.” Kogonada will direct the film, with Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Ryan Friedkin of Imperative Entertainment producing. Seith Reiss, who is also writing the script, and Youree Henley are also attached as producers.

Margot Robbie is entering a new era, not only as an expecting mother but also as a notable film mogul. Following the phenomenal success of “Barbie,” her production company LuckyChap has signed a first-look deal with Warner Bros., paving the way for Robbie to develop and release her projects. Among these is a “Monopoly” movie with Lionsgate, an adaptation of Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld’s “Avengelyne” with Olivia Wilde, and a “Sims” movie directed by Marvel’s “Loki” director Kate Herron.

Additionally, plans for Robbie to star in a female-led spinoff of “Pirates of the Caribbean” are reportedly still in the works, even as discussions continue about Johnny Depp’s potential return as Captain Jack Sparrow in the main series. Back in 2022, Robbie mentioned to Vanity Fair that they had been developing a new take on the franchise that would have featured a female-led storyline, though not entirely. It appeared that the project was not moving forward at that time.

However, in 2024, super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney have shown renewed interest in Robbie, especially after the success of “Barbie.” Bruckheimer expressed optimism about the spinoff, saying, “We hope to get both made, and I think Disney agrees they really want to make the Margot one, too,” he told EW earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Colin Farrell is set to appear in “The Batman” spinoff series “The Penguin,” which will premiere on HBO and stream on Max in September.
