Marilyn Manson’s 2024 Tour: Who’s in the Live Band?

During his first performance since early 2020, Marilyn Manson introduced his new backing band, which includes two returning members and two new ones, who, though new to his band, are well known in the music industry.

Drummer Gil Sharone and guitarist Tyler Bates have rejoined Manson after his career was interrupted by numerous legal issues involving serious allegations of sexual abuse. Joining them are bassist Piggy D., previously with Rob Zombie, and current Code Orange guitarist/co-vocalist Reba Meyers.

Manson’s comeback show occurred on Aug. 2, as part of the Five Finger Death Punch headlining tour, which also features Slaughter to Prevail. On the same day, he released “As Sick As the Secrets Within,” his first new track since the 2020 album We Are Chaos.

In January, Piggy D. left his role as Rob Zombie’s bassist after 18 years. He shared, “Dear friends, my time with Zombie has come to an end. It was an honor to entertain you for the last 18 years. I look forward to the future and wish everyone the best,” at the time, without mentioning his next steps. Rob Zombie quickly enlisted Ozzy Osbourne’s bassist Rob “Blasko” Nicholson to fill the vacancy.

It wasn’t until Piggy D. took the stage at Marilyn Manson’s first performance in nearly five years that his future plans became apparent. He expressed his gratitude in an Instagram post detailing Marilyn Manson’s tour dates: “It is with immense gratitude that I stand with these beautiful and inspiring people on this amazing journey. I hope to see you all there!”

Numerous fellow musicians, including Blasko, Acey Slade (Misfits), Richard Shaw (ex-Cradle of Filth), Wednesday 13, and others, congratulated Piggy D. Guitarist John 5, who left Rob Zombie in 2022 to join Motley Crue and was previously with Manson from 1998 to 2004, also celebrated the bassist’s new role, responding with six fire emojis.

Code Orange guitarist and co-vocalist Reba Meyers also made her debut with Manson. Meyers, an original member of the veteran hardcore band, which last released The Above in 2023, took fans by surprise. Many commented on social media about not having this on their “2024 BINGO card.”

Some reactions were mixed, with some fans recalling Meyers’ 2020 statement regarding a Code Orange crew member’s alleged sexual misconduct. Meyers condemned the crew member’s behavior, describing it as “horrible disrespect and misogyny towards women” and expressed sorrow over the situation. The full statement was shared by Code Orange’s Jami Morgan in June 2020.

Despite the controversy, Meyers received a mix of reactions from fans, ranging from support to criticism.

Tyler Bates, who has intermittently played with Marilyn Manson since 2014, also rejoined the band. Bates, who also plays guitar for Alice in Chains’ guitarist Jerry Cantrell’s solo project, is known for his work as a composer on films like Dawn of the Dead, 300, and Halloween. There is an interesting connection, as Greg Puciato from The Dillinger Escape Plan, who sings in Cantrell’s group, is currently in a relationship with Meyers.

Drummer Gil Sharone, who has played in bands like Stolen Babies and Team Sleep, returns to Manson’s lineup. Sharone first joined Manson in 2014 but left in 2019 before Manson halted all touring activities. Sharone’s notable past includes his tenure with The Dillinger Escape Plan from 2007 to 2009, contributing to their album Ire Works.

As Marilyn Manson steps back into the spotlight, the blend of returning and new members in his backing band seems set to bring a fresh dynamic to his upcoming performances.
