Mark Wahlberg Predicts Rosy Outlook for Patriots’ 2024 Season Record

Oscar-nominated actor Mark Wahlberg, also a passionate New England Patriots fan, is thrilled about their new coach-quarterback combination—Jerod Mayo and Drake Maye—for the 2024 season. He also has a record prediction for the team.

During an interview with ClutchPoints about his upcoming Netflix movie, The Union, Mark Wahlberg shared his thoughts on the Patriots’ prospects for the upcoming season.

“You know what? I’m very confident in coach Mayo, and we’re looking good so far in the preseason. I think we’ll be better than people think,” Wahlberg said. “I always say we’re going to have a winning record, so I’m saying 10-7.”

He then inquired about my prediction for my favorite team, the New York Giants. I estimated a modest ceiling of 7-10. Smirking, Wahlberg replied, “That sounds a little more realistic.”

The New England Patriots recently played their first preseason game of the 2024 NFL season and triumphed over the Carolina Panthers with a score of 17-3. Four quarterbacks took to the field, including rookie Drake Maye, who completed two passes for 19 yards. Bailey Zappe led the group with 108 yards, but Joe Milton was the only quarterback to throw a touchdown pass.

Jerod Mayo, a former Patriots player from 2008 to 2015, has succeeded Bill Belichick as head coach. After over two decades and six Super Bowl championships, Belichick parted ways with the team and remains unsigned. His departure followed a disappointing 4-13 season in 2023, the worst under his tenure. The Patriots have struggled since Tom Brady left after the 2019 season, securing only one winning season in the four years without Brady.

In addition to Maye, the Patriots selected several promising players in the 2024 NFL Draft, including wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk, offensive tackle Caedan Wallace, guard Layden Robinson, wide receiver Javon Baker, cornerback Marcellas Dial, quarterback Joe Milton, and defensive back Jaheim Bell.

Mark Wahlberg first gained fame during his tenure in the hip-hop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. He transitioned to acting with roles in Renaissance Man, Fear, and Boogie Nights, establishing himself as a leading man in Hollywood. Blockbuster roles in The Perfect Storm and Planet of the Apes followed in the early 2000s. Wahlberg earned an Oscar nomination in 2006 for his role in Martin Scorsese’s The Departed.

Over the years, Wahlberg has starred in numerous notable films, such as Shooter, Date Night, The Other Guys, The Fighter, Ted, and Lone Survivor. He also led Transformers: Age of Extinction and its sequel, The Last Knight. Other significant movies include Deepwater Horizon, Patriots Day, Mile 22, Instant Family, and Father Stu.

Recently, Wahlberg has focused more on producing, backing projects he’s starred in like The Gambler, Joe Bell, Infinite, and The Family Plan.

In his latest venture, Wahlberg stars in Netflix’s The Union alongside Halle Berry. He plays a construction worker recruited for a globe-trotting mission by his high school girlfriend. Additionally, he will reunite with Mel Gibson in Flight Risk, following their collaborations in Daddy’s Home 2 and Father Stu.

The Union is set to be released on Netflix on August 16.
