Marvel Announces Hulk vs. Thanos Winner

Thanos’ latest quest for the Infinity Stones leads him into a fierce encounter with the Incredible Hulk. In the Marvel Comics Universe, the Infinity Stones differ slightly from their cinematic counterparts. In the comics, the Stones have bonded with human hosts, granting them extraordinary abilities. Some hosts use these powers for heroic endeavors, while others exploit them for nefarious purposes. Thanos, relentless in his pursuit, aims to seize these Stones, and his search for the Mind Stone pits him against the Hulk in an epic showdown.

Incredible Hulk Annual #1, the sixth installment of the “Infinity Watch” crossover, is brought to life by the creative team of Derek Landy, Geoff Shaw, Frank Martin, and VC’s Cory Petit. The story follows Colleen Wing as she tracks down Worldmind, the current bearer of the Mind Stone, who has been telepathically reaching out to her. Although Worldmind desires Colleen as his bodyguard, she feels overwhelmed by the cosmic magnitude of the Stones. Their dialogue, however, is abruptly interrupted by the arrival of a formidable cosmic threat: Thanos.

Worldmind attempts to assault Thanos’ mind with his powers, but the Mad Titan swiftly retaliates by fatally punching a hole through Worldmind’s chest, claiming the Mind Stone. The Stone then calls out for assistance, summoning the Hulk to challenge Thanos.

Hulk and Thanos are undoubtedly two of the most daunting figures in the Marvel Universe. They previously clashed when Hulk was part of a new Illuminati in Christopher Cantwell and Luca Pizzari’s Thanos miniseries. In their latest confrontation, Thanos tries to utilize the Mind Stone against Hulk. The Hulk, however, responds with a barrage of bites and punches. Thanos makes a critical error by calling Hulk “puny,” which only fuels Hulk’s rage.

The ensuing battle is brutal and destructive, tearing apart the forest that serves as their battleground. Thanos initially seems to gain the upper hand by snapping Hulk’s neck, but the resilient Hulk merely resets it and launches a retaliatory strike. The fight appears to tip in Hulk’s favor primarily due to the timely intervention of Colleen Wing, who now wields the Mind Stone. Colleen manages to drive her sword into Thanos’ skull, and Hulk delivers a final, devastating punch to incapacitate Thanos, allowing them time to flee.

Ultimately, this round belongs to the Hulk, reinforced by Colleen Wing’s crucial assistance. Whether or not this marks the end of their brutal rivalry remains to be seen, but for now, the Hulk stands victorious.
