Marvel Chairman Unveils Exciting New Cinematic Universe at SDCC

Mythos Studios is set to make a significant splash at San Diego Comic-Con with the unveiling of “Ekos Vol. 1” from Marvel chairman David Maisel.

This new graphic novel marks the beginning of a fresh cinematic universe featuring Grell, a hero who is largely unknown at this point. Grell will be prominently featured throughout the event, appearing at more than 250 access portals that attendees will use to enter. Such a wide presence in prime real estate at the Con ensures maximum visibility.

David Maisel, known as the founding chairman of Marvel Studios, played a pivotal role in bringing characters like Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Grell will be the latest character to watch, and “Ekos” could be the launchpad for a universe that may introduce hundreds of other characters.

The Ekos universe draws inspiration from the artistic creations of Michael Turner and writer Geoff Johns. Turner, a beloved artist, passed away in 2008 at the age of 37 due to complications from bone cancer.

In collaboration with Aspen Comics, Mythos Studios will officially launch “Ekos Vol. 1” at Comic-Con, which is being positioned as the starting point for potential film and television adaptations. This project will kick off with a Kickstarter campaign launching on September 10.

“When I announced Iron Man as our first movie, more people thought it was a triathlon — not a superhero — and many people in Hollywood knew it had been in development for years at New Line — and never made it out of that stage,” Maisel reminisced.

Maisel described “Ekos Vol. 1” as “Avatar meets Spider-Verse,” but the exact plot details are currently being kept under wraps.

“It’s a fresh story,” Maisel continued. “But it’s also inspired by the art and creations of Michael Turner.”

When it comes to Grell’s powers, specifics remain vague, but it sounds like they will resonate with contemporary audiences.

“They are not the obvious ones [super powers],” Maisel explained. “It looks like he’s super strong. He has wings. But I hit on something that I think is timely for today’s world and will be surprising for people.”

The creative team behind the graphic novel includes colorist Peter Steigerwald (Civil War), writer J.T. Krul (Soulfire), and artist Alex Konat (Fathom). Additionally, the cover art will be done by renowned artists such as Joe Quesada, Alex Ross, J. Scott Campbell, David Mack, Jerome Opeña, and others.

Mythos Studios and Aspen Comics will also have booths at Comic-Con and will host a panel in Room 4 on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Anticipation is high for what Ekos and Grell might deliver. Given the extensive attention they are receiving in San Diego, there’s a possibility they could achieve success reminiscent of Marvel’s Iron Man.
