Marvel Removes 2026 Film from Upcoming Schedule

A previously planned entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is not happening as originally scheduled.

Disney and Marvel have reshuffled their release calendar, announcing that a film initially slated for July 24, 2026, will no longer be released on that date. The specific title of the film was never disclosed, but this move signifies it won’t be happening as planned.

In place of the canceled film, Marvel has set release dates for two yet-to-be-revealed projects in 2027: one on July 23 and another on November 5.

Even with the removal of this movie, Marvel’s slate is still packed with major titles in the coming years. Here’s their updated schedule:

  • Captain America: Brave New World – February 14, 2025
  • Thunderbolts – May 2, 2025
  • The Fantastic Four: First Steps – July 25, 2025
  • Blade – November 7, 2025
  • Avengers: Doomsday – May 1, 2026
  • Avengers: Secret Wars – May 7, 2027

If these new schedule changes hold, Marvel would release just one movie in 2026 — the newly announced Avengers: Doomsday, which will mark the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU. Additionally, 2027 will see the release of three films. For 2025, Marvel has four movies lined up, a high number for the studio. However, looking at the delays and behind-the-scenes issues with Blade, it remains uncertain if the film will meet its scheduled release date.

The last time Marvel released back-to-back Avengers sequels, they inserted two more MCU films between them: Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel. Both became sizable hits, likely boosted by the immense curiosity surrounding the resolution of Infinity War’s massive cliffhanger. Nonetheless, during that period, Marvel wasn’t producing television series for Disney+, adding another layer of complexity to their scheduling now.
