Marvel Subtly References Eternals in Captain America 4 Trailer Scene

Captain America: Brave New World is bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe together in a manner reminiscent of the Infinity Saga. The first teaser trailer for the Anthony Mackie-led fourquel features Mackie’s Sam Wilson in his star-spangled suit, a look he fully embraced in 2021’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Wilson now finds himself dealing with a familiar face sporting a “new look”: Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Ross and Wilson are not new to conflict, having butted heads over the Sokovia Accords during Captain America: Civil War. In Brave New World, Ross attempts to integrate Captain America back into the military, hoping to be on the same page as Wilson.

The plot thickens as the White House is attacked and flashes of action unfold. Among the quick glimpses is Wilson flying past a massive rocky structure, sparking recognition among eagle-eyed MCU fans.

The Captain America: Brave New World teaser poster offers the first glimpse of Tiamut since the Celestial erupted from Earth’s surface in 2021’s Eternals. This is the first big screen acknowledgment of Eternals events outside of its own film. Rumors have suggested that Tiamut will be a point of contention for global superpowers in Captain America: Brave New World, with countries vying to claim its resources. Among these resources is adamantium, the fictional metal known in Marvel Comics to make up Wolverine’s skeleton.

In Eternals, the Celestial Arishem the Judge revealed that planets in the MCU serve as cocoons for Celestials, with life on these planets helping in their birth. After the universe’s repopulation following Avengers: Endgame, Arishem declared that Earth was ready to give birth to its Celestial, Tiamut. The Eternals stopped Tiamut’s birth, leaving only his massive hand and face visible.

Since Eternals, no MCU films had acknowledged the presence of the giant hand and face protruding from Earth. Now, it seems Tiamut and the events of Eternals will play a central role in Wilson’s maiden feature film journey as the new Captain America.

Captain America: Brave New World is set to hit theaters on February 14th, 2025.
