Marvel Teases Cyclops’ X-Men vs. Rogue’s Uncanny X-Men in New Solicitations

Since the first issue of X-Men in 1963, the mutantkind has often found itself divided between two towering philosophies: Professor Charles Xavier’s hope for mutant-human coexistence and Magneto’s belief in mutant superiority over humans. Over time, these differing ideologies shaped the way mutants interacted with the world around them. The Krakoan age brought a brief unification, but that era has ended. Now, a new epoch begins with Cyclops and Rogue standing as the key pillars of the House of X.

Mutants are once again scattered across the globe. Charles Xavier finds himself incarcerated, known ominously as Inmate X, charged with crimes against humanity by Warden Ellis. This turn of events has converted Xavier’s once hopeful School for Gifted Youngsters into a mutant prison. The X-Men are now splintered.

In the new X-Men #1 by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman, Cyclops re-establishes a base of operations in an old Sentinel factory in Alaska. This move follows a settlement with the U.S. government after his trial, Scott Summers vs. The United States. Cyclops leads a robust mutant strike team including Beast, Psylocke, Kid Omega, Temper, Magik, and the Juggernaut. Magneto oversees their unsanctioned missions, which have caught the attention of ONE Agent Lundqvist.

Cyclops’ team has been on a mission to track abnormal adult X-Gene activations, traveling first to Santo Marco and then to San Francisco, aiming to thwart potential mutant catastrophes caused by mysterious new villains, Fourth School and 3K. Meanwhile, over in Gail Simone and David Marquez’s Uncanny X-Men #1, Rogue, Gambit, and Wolverine find refuge in a Louisiana orphanage.

This trio grapples with the idea of an X-Men existence without Charles, Scott, and the now ex-X-Man, Kate Pryde. They encounter the Outliers, a group of four runaway young mutants, one of whom is foretold to end all mutantkind.

The paths of these two sets of X-Men have briefly crossed. Cyclops contacted Rogue in Uncanny X-Men #1, and their heated conversation continued in X-Men #3, ending abruptly. This confrontation sets the stage for December’s X-Men #8, where the tension between Cyclops and Rogue promises to escalate.

In Uncanny X-Men #2, slated for release on September 11, 2024, the team’s struggle intensifies. Rogue, Gambit, and Wolverine will welcome an old ally as they face four uncontrollable mutants in Louisiana. With the mutant community in disarray, even the might of the Uncanny X-Men might not be enough to hold back the burgeoning chaos.

Moving forward, X-Men #4, releasing on September 18, 2024, will feature Trevor Fitzroy and the Upstarts, broadcasting real-time mutant hunts to their online audience. The conflict continues to grow in Uncanny X-Men #3 and X-Men #5, with narrative threads revealing dark secrets and dangerous missions.

October’s releases kick off with Uncanny X-Men #4 on the 16th, where Rogue faces deadly darkness with no backup. Mysteries about the prophecies of mutantkind’s potential demise unfold, hinting at intriguing subplots. Meanwhile, in X-Men #6 set for October 23, 2024, various characters split to uncover hidden secrets that could shake the foundation of their cause.

Uncanny X-Men #5, out on November 13, 2024, concludes the Red Wave storyline with a dramatic showdown. As the new generation of mutants must choose sides, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Closing out November, Uncanny X-Men #6 will explore everyday life for young mutants attending a rural school in Louisiana.

Finally, December 4, 2024 brings X-Men #8, launching the "Raid on Graymalkin" storyline. As Cyclops’ and Rogue’s teams mount simultaneous rescue missions, their paths seem destined to clash, epitomizing the intersecting destinies that have always been a hallmark of the X-Men saga.
