Marvel Zombies, Spider-Man, Wakanda, and More Animated Series Updated at D23

Marvel’s animated TV series made a big splash at D23 this Saturday with several exciting announcements.

Marvel Zombies had a lot of people talking with the reveal of its mature audience rating. Although fans are eager to watch, the series is still some time away and will span just four episodes. Notable characters making their appearance include Shang-Chi, Katy, Wenwu, Death Dealer, and federal agent Jimmy Woo.

Spider-Man fans were thrilled with updates on the much-anticipated series, previously known as Spider-Man: Freshman Year. This show will explore Peter Parker’s path to becoming Spider-Man in an exciting new way. A sneak peek revealed that Peter gets bitten by a spider which emerges from a portal, alongside Doctor Strange who is battling a symbiote. Hudson Thames, who lent his voice to Peter in What If…?, will reprise his role. Colman Domingo will voice Norman Osborn, who, in this incarnation, serves as Peter’s “man in the chair.”

As for X-Men ’97, the follow-up to the acclaimed X-Men: The Animated Series, the second season will feature a roster including Apocalypse, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Havock, Mariko, Polaris, and Danger. The X-Men will don the suits from the Grant Morrison comic books. Beau DeMayo, the creator, explained that this costume shift is deeply tied to the story and themes explored in Season 2. There is a particular connection to Genosha and the “E Is for Extinction” storyline.

Eyes of Wakanda is set to dive into the rich history of Black Panther’s nation. This four-episode series, developed by Todd Harris, will introduce a new character, Noni, a warrior from Wakanda’s past. Harris also hinted at the appearance of other clandestine figures from Marvel’s secret cities, vaguely referencing a character with a glowing fist.

Lastly, What If…? is gearing up for its third and final season. Fans can expect episodes featuring Moon Knight, Shang Chi, White Vision, Ironheart, Wong, Scarlet Witch, Monica Rambeau, and Captain America. One episode, titled “Go-Avengers: Heroes of the Gamma War,” will focus on mechs.
