Mary J. Blige brought retro fashion to the grand opening of Ghirardelli’s Chocolate and Ice Cream Shop in New York on Tuesday. She was also invited to light the Empire State Building, where the new boutique is located.

Blige sported a polka dot Dolce & Gabbana halter top paired with high-waisted pleated pants. She accessorized with red peep-toe heels, capturing the essence of 1950s style. Her ensemble was capped off with a layered diamond necklace, stud earrings, and layered bracelets and rings.

Hairdresser Tym Wallace styled her braided auburn tresses in an elegant updo, while makeup artist Merrell Hollis provided her with a smoky eye and glossy lips.

“We’re standing at the foot of the Empire State Building. It’s the most iconic building in New York City… Ghirardelli, an incredible company, and Mary J. Blige together. That is just the perfect combination,” said Ghirardelli’s chief executive officer Joel Burrows.

Mauricia Henry, who styled Blige at the “Power Book II: Ghost” premiere in June, has been working with the R&B legend since 2021. At that event, Blige wore an asymmetric black and white Balmain gown from the label’s pre-fall 2024 collection. Her outfit was accessorized with chunky gold bangles, a collar necklace, hoop earrings, and Gianvito Rossi sandals.

The R&B icon attended the premiere of “Power Book II: Ghost’s” fourth and final season alongside several other members of the show’s cast, including 50 Cent, Woody McClain, and Michael Rainey Jr. The crime drama series follows Rainey’s character, Tariq St. Patrick, as he struggles to balance his drug operation with school grades, love life, and family responsibilities following his father’s death.

Blige’s presence added a touch of glamour to both the Ghirardelli opening and the “Power Book II: Ghost” premiere. Her fashion choices always manage to capture attention and her appearances at these events were no exception. Both aesthetically and culturally, Mary J. Blige continues to be a significant influence, seamlessly blending classic and contemporary styles.
