Matthew McConaughey Celebrates Son Levi’s 16th Birthday with Heartfelt Post

It’s a sweet sixteenth!

Matthew McConaughey celebrated his son Levi turning 16 by sharing heartwarming advice on his special day.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, the Oscar-winning actor, 54, posted a montage of photos featuring himself, his wife Camila Alves, and the birthday boy.

“Alright Levi, coming on that age, buddy. About to be out on your own,” the “Dallas Buyers Club” actor said in a voiceover.

“Me and your mom hope we’ve done as good of a job as we can. You’re not gonna really have us as a safety net out there in the wonderful, wild world forever,” he continued.

Married to Alves since 2012, McConaughey offered more fatherly advice to their eldest child.

“Just go out, enjoy. Be aware of your surroundings. Be yourself. Know when to say yes, know when to say no, know when to say maybe,” he said. “See the good in everybody else, but know that not everyone else is always paying attention.”

“Take your time. Enjoy the journey,” the “Interstellar” actor concluded, captioning the emotional post with the same advice.

On Levi’s 15th birthday, the actor introduced his son to the world of social media.

“Happy birthday Levi Alves McConaughey,” he said in a joint Instagram post with Alves last year.

“Can you believe it?” Alves asked, turning to her husband. “Fifteen years young,” he replied, adding, “Hey buddy, your mom is a little nervous today. One of the gifts we’re giving you, yes, we are allowing you today to join the social media universe.”

The “Gentlemen” star revealed that the couple had been discussing when to give their blessing for him to get a social media account since he was 12 years old.

“All his friends have had it for a long time,” Alves noted. “We’ve been holding up.”

McConaughey added, “He knows who he is, and he knows where he’s going. I think he can handle it. He’s got a great story to tell and share.”

“Levi, enjoy the adventure, enjoy telling your story, expressing yourself, and what you put out there and the exchange you get with people out there,” McConaughey concluded.

McConaughey and Alves welcomed Levi on July 7, 2008. The couple also has two younger kids: daughter Vida, 14, and son Livingston, 11.

In January, the couple celebrated their daughter Vida’s 14th birthday by sharing a rare snap of the teen on social media, and just days prior, they marked their son Livingston’s 11th birthday on Dec. 28.
