Matthew Perry and Brooke Mueller: Inside Their Relationship

Note: This article discusses substance abuse issues.

Actor Matthew Perry tragically died in October 2023 at the age of 54. He had struggled with drug and alcohol addiction throughout his life, and his cause of death was linked to ketamine usage. Perry’s toxicology report triggered a criminal investigation, leading to five people being charged for supplying him with the drug. U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada commented on the case, stating, “They knew what they were doing was risking great danger to Mr. Perry, but they did it anyways. In the end, these defendants were more interested in profiting off Mr. Perry than caring for his wellbeing” (via Page Six).

One of Perry’s friends, Brooke Mueller, was questioned during the investigation. Law enforcement sought to determine who provided Perry with the ketamine he took before he died, and Mueller cooperated fully. An insider told In Touch Weekly in June 2024 that her iPhone and laptop were taken as part of the investigation. “She’s hired lawyers and has had multiple meetings with law enforcement since they arrived at her sober living house with a search warrant,” the source said. “She’s being tight-lipped about the situation.” Mueller maintained that she did not contribute to Perry’s death.

The insider also noted how Perry and Mueller became friends. “They met in rehab… It was an unexpected friendship, but they leaned on each other,” the source said.

Brooke Mueller, formerly married to Charlie Sheen, and Matthew Perry were reportedly in rehab together a few times. An insider spoke to Us Weekly in August 2024 about their relationship outside of rehab. “Matthew was a friend who would ask her for favors. And Matthew was relentless. That’s what an addict is,” the source said. “She was a pawn to Matthew. They didn’t go to dinner or hang out. He was isolated even from friends and family.”

The source also mentioned that Perry and Mueller shared information about doctors, implying they were lenient with medications. However, it was usually Perry who would contact Mueller. “People in his life tried to prevent him from reaching out to her,” they added.

A few days before the Us Weekly report, TMZ revealed that arrests had been made following Perry’s death investigation, but Mueller was reportedly not among those arrested.

Brooke Mueller apparently knew two of the five individuals arrested in connection with Matthew Perry’s death. According to TMZ, Mueller, Perry, and Jasveen Sangha, nicknamed “The Ketamine Queen,” were once in rehab together. Mueller was also reportedly close to Erik Fleming, another defendant who pleaded guilty. TMZ sources indicated that Fleming, a drug broker, facilitated the transfer of drugs from Sangha to Perry’s assistant. Page Six also noted that Fleming was a friend of Perry’s. Mueller reportedly met her now-ex Charlie Sheen at one of Perry’s parties.

In the days following the arrests, an insider told People, “Brooke Mueller was questioned in this case because she was friends with Matthew Perry but she never used ketamine.” Mueller was not accused of any wrongdoing related to Perry’s death.

After the investigation, Mueller was seen celebrating her 47th birthday with her twin sons. She was also photographed smiling alongside her mother, Moira Fiore, and stepfather, Jon Fiore. According to the Daily Mail, she expressed gratitude for her children, saying, “I’m very grateful for my kids.”
