Maya Rudolph to Return to ‘SNL’ as Kamala Harris

Maya Rudolph is set to make a notable return to “Saturday Night Live” for its landmark 50th season, and fans have a lot to look forward to. The buzz began after Kamala Harris announced her presidential run following Joe Biden’s decision to step down. Social media erupted with calls for Rudolph to reprise her beloved portrayal of Harris, and the comedian has answered those requests.

According to Deadline, Rudolph will step back into her role as Harris during the critical final weeks of the 2024 Presidential campaign. She first introduced her version of Harris in December 2019 in a cold open that quickly became a hit, even earning her an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2020. Since then, Rudolph has occasionally appeared as the Vice President on “SNL.” With Harris now potentially becoming the next President, fans are thrilled at the thought of possibly seeing more of Rudolph’s impression for years to come.

There is a small drawback to her “SNL” return, though. Rudolph’s Apple TV+ series “Loot” was renewed for a third season, but its filming schedule has been delayed. Sources indicate that production, initially scheduled to begin on August 26, has been postponed to January in Los Angeles due to “scheduling reasons.” Meanwhile, “SNL” Season 50 is slated to premiere on September 28.

Currently, it’s unclear how many “SNL” episodes will feature Rudolph. It’s reasonable to expect her presence in several episodes leading up to Election Night in early November, with her future appearances likely depending on the election outcome. Regardless of the frequency, fans are eagerly awaiting “Mamala”‘s grand return to “SNL,” promising memorable and entertaining skits.

The historic 50th season of “Saturday Night Live” will kick off on September 28 on NBC’s fall 2024 lineup. To celebrate the show’s rich history, a three-hour live primetime special will air on Sunday, February 16, starting at 8 p.m. ET. For those who want to catch up or relive their favorite moments, all seasons of “SNL,” including Rudolph’s past performances as Kamala Harris, are available on Peacock. There’s no doubt that Season 50 will be one for the books, and it’s just around the corner.
