Before Colin Jost was announced as host of Pop Culture Jeopardy!, Mayim Bialik reportedly had her sights set on the role. In the Aug. 5, 2024 print edition of the National Enquirer, it was mentioned that Bialik, a former host of Jeopardy! and Celebrity Jeopardy! before her departure in 2023, expressed interest in the franchise’s newest spinoff.
A TV industry insider confirmed, “Producers are still searching for a host for Pop Culture Jeopardy!, and Mayim has let it be known she’s interested in the job.” After Bialik was let go, Ken Jennings assumed full-time hosting duties. Despite her exit, Bialik reportedly “didn’t burn any bridges.” The insider added, “She really enjoys hosting a game show, not to mention the money that goes with it. Mayim has a doctorate degree in neuroscience, so she might be better suited for regular Jeopardy! But she was also a pop culture star on TV’s biggest sitcom. So she has a case!”
Unfortunately, Bialik did not secure the job, regardless of her interest. It was recently announced that Saturday Night Live‘s Colin Jost has been selected to host Pop Culture Jeopardy!, the first series in the franchise available exclusively on streaming platforms. There’s always a possibility Bialik could return to Jeopardy! in the future, either as a guest host or alongside Ken Jennings. Additionally, it’s possible that Pop Culture Jeopardy! won’t be the last spinoff, so her hosting ambitions might still come to fruition.
Pop Culture Jeopardy! was initially ordered by Prime Video in May and will offer a fresh format for the longstanding franchise. Instead of the traditional setup with three individual competitors, the show will feature teams of three demonstrating their pop culture prowess. Topics will span a wide range, from alternative rock to the Avengers, Broadway to MMA, and Gen Z to Zendaya. A premiere date for Pop Culture Jeopardy! has yet to be announced, but viewers are eager to see how Colin Jost takes on this new role.
