Meet Johnathan Hillstrand’s Kids from ‘Deadliest Catch’

As one of the original captains on Deadliest Catch, viewers have come to know Captain Johnathan Hillstrand and his large fishing vessel, Time Bandit. The boat is co-owned by Johnathan along with his brothers Andy and Neal Hillstrand. Time Bandit has been a prominent feature in nearly every season of Deadliest Catch. Johnathan was often joined by his brother Andy, who has alternated between roles as co-captain and occasional captain for several seasons before ultimately leaving the show.

Several other fishing families have been featured throughout the series. Captain Sig Hansen and his brother Edgar Hansen frequently appear alongside Sig’s wife, Louise. Another family that played a significant role in the show was the Harris family. Captain Phil Harris worked alongside his sons, Josh and Jake, on the Cornelia Marie until his untimely death. His sons continued on the show for a time until personal and legal matters came to the forefront.

Johnathan Hillstrand also had his son, Scott Hillstrand, join him on the show.

One of the Hillstrand children who was prominently featured in the series is Scott Hillstrand. Scott joined the Deadliest Catch team in Season 4. He remained on the series for several years before officially parting ways in 2015. Additionally, Johnathan reportedly has a daughter, possibly named Tae Hillstrand, though there are insufficient sources to definitively confirm her identity. Beyond being a father, Johnathan is also a proud grandfather.

Deadliest Catch not only showcases the physical challenges of fishing in treacherous waters, but it also highlights the complexities of keeping a family business running smoothly while grappling with personal issues. This balance was particularly evident in the interactions between Scott Hillstrand and his father and uncle. In Season 4, Scott worked as a deckhand and expressed a desire to go home to be more present in his children’s lives, especially after witnessing his father nearly lose his life. Later on, tension between Scott and Andy became apparent.

The relationship between Scott and Andy Hillstrand soured over time. Scott left the show in 2015, and although no official reason was provided initially, Scott later shared his perspective on social media. When a fan inquired about his absence, Scott revealed that Andy had fired him over an incident from the previous season, citing a specific confrontation with his uncle. The discussion continued with Scott attributing his departure to both his uncle and the network, indicating that he felt the offers he received were insufficient.
