Meet Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s Teenage Twins: Moroccan and Monroe

She may be the Queen of Christmas to many, but to her children Moroccan and Monroe, Mariah Carey is just mom.

The “Fantasy” singer, now 55, became a mother in 2011 when she welcomed her twins with then-husband Nick Cannon.

Mariah and Nick tied the knot in 2008 and celebrated their third wedding anniversary with the birth of their twins on April 30, 2011. These are the only children they have together, though Nick has fathered ten other kids.

The couple divorced five years later, but they’ve remained friends and their kids’ biggest supporters. “They’re a lot, but they give me so much love in return. I wouldn’t be the same person without them,” Mariah told People in 2019. She added, “I think Nick and I have done pretty well in co-parenting, staying friends with each other so that we can talk.”

Now that Roc and Roe are teenagers, they are beginning to share more about their personalities and lives. Here’s a closer look.

Monroe, the firstborn of the twins, is named in honor of Marilyn Monroe. Mariah also wanted her children to share her initials. Not only do they share initials, but Monroe seems to have inherited her mom’s singing talent.

The teen has performed on stage with Mariah numerous times, including during last year’s Christmas tour. Mariah revealed on Good Morning America that Monroe rehearsed more than she did. “I think my daughter is rehearsing more than me. I think she has it together more than me,” she said.

Mariah also mentioned that Monroe inherited her signature high pitch, though she still “has to play with it.”

Now a teenager, Monroe has her own Instagram account. One of her first posts was a shout-out to Olivia Rodrigo after attending her concert. She shared a photo with the “Good 4 U” singer, captioning it: “This is so late but last Tuesday was the best night of my life WHATT like @oliviarodrigo I love u so much I had the time of my life it was a dream [for real].”

Moroccan’s name was inspired by the Moroccan-themed decor in his parents’ New York City apartment, where they got engaged.

Although he might be more reserved than his sister, Moroccan has also joined his mom on stage multiple times.

He shares glimpses of his life on Instagram, including selfies with Monroe, photos with friends, and a snap of him working on an electric piano keyboard with his dad, Nick.
