Meghan Markle Wears Princess Diana’s Butterfly Earrings on Colombia Tour

Meghan Markle is honoring the memory of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, one accessory at a time.

On the second day of their Colombia tour, Prince Harry, 39, and Markle, 43, paid a visit to the Colegio La Giralda school located in Santa Fe. The royal couple had a chance to meet a classroom full of Colombian students and their teachers.

According to Hello! Magazine, the Duchess of Sussex rocked a camel linen blazer in the ‘Jamilla’ style from Loro Piana with a white button-down shirt and black pants. She paired the casual ensemble with Chanel Goatskin and Grosgrain Slingbacks in beige and black. But the real star of the show? It would have to be the Suits alum’s dazzling butterfly earrings, which were previously worn by her late mother-in-law.

The People’s Princess was spotted wearing the gorgeous accessory in May 1986, back when she and her then-husband, Prince Charles, were visiting British Columbia, Canada. The butterfly-shaped pieces of jewelry are embellished with diamonds and black shimmering stones. At the time, Princess Diana wore the butterfly earrings with a matching gold choker, a blue Catherine Walker suit, and a polka dot hat designed by Graham Smith.

Now, this is certainly not the first time the duchess has paid tribute to her late mother-in-law with a meaningful accessory. Back in May, Markle and Prince Harry traveled to Nigeria to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games. During a visit to the Nigerian Defence Headquarters in Abuja, the mother of two honored the late royal by wearing a piece of jewelry that once belonged to the princess, who passed away in a car accident in 1997. Markle was photographed wearing a gold cross necklace—and according to People, Prince Harry gifted the accessory to his wife.

A lovely tribute from the duchess.
