Meghan Markle’s Father Predicts Grim Future for Archie and Lilibet

Thomas Markle made an earnest appeal to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry just before his 80th birthday, asking for a picture of his grandchildren. This request is steeped in irony since it was photographs that initiated the rift between him and the Sussexes. Infamously, Thomas posed for paparazzi shots prior to Meghan and Harry’s wedding, breaching royal protocol in the process. He has since claimed that he did this to restore his reputation after the couple distanced themselves from him. Meghan later revealed in a highly publicized interview with Oprah that her father had lied about collaborating with the tabloids. “I genuinely can’t imagine doing anything to intentionally cause pain to my child. I can’t imagine it,” she confessed. “So it’s hard for me to reconcile that.” 

Thomas has apologized for staging the photos, yet he asserts that his grandchildren are suffering harsher consequences compared to him. He recounted observing the 2024 Trooping the Colour ceremony, noting that despite their ongoing health issues, King Charles III and Kate Middleton appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony. “I feel sad that Archie and Lilibet don’t have the chance to…take part in things like Trooping the Colour, which is their birthright,” he expressed to the Daily Mail.

It’s worth considering that with King Charles’s plans for a reduced monarchy, the Sussexes might not have had balcony privileges even if they remained in London and abstained from airing their grievances publicly. Nonetheless, Thomas voiced a far more profound regret as well.
