Method Man Claims He’s Never Earned Money From His Music Streaming

Method Man isn’t the biggest fan of how modern technology has altered the musical landscape. The rap legend recently revealed that he’s yet to receive any payment from his music being on streaming services.

The Staten Island representative shared his thoughts during a conversation with Wale Ogunleye, the Head of Sports & Entertainment at New York’s UBS venue. Method Man discussed his lack of compensation from streaming platforms such as Spotify, Tidal, and Apple Music. “Honestly, I’ve never gotten a streaming check for any of my music,” Method Man disclosed, a revelation that came as a shock to many fans and commentators.

The Wu-Tang Clan member delved further into the topic, sharing his concerns about the expanding influence of artificial intelligence on the music industry. “I’m still trying to figure out AI, but I have seen some things that have made me raise an eyebrow,” he noted. He referred to instances like the Drake diss featuring a fake 2Pac and Snoop Dogg, and fake Kendrick Lamar diss tracks. “It’s a lot to it.”

Method Man emphasized the deeper implications of these technological advancements, particularly for artists from his era. He explained that as a 53-year-old, he is still coming to terms with both artificial intelligence and streaming. Despite his reservations, he is striving to navigate this new landscape and gain a better understanding of it.

“Like I said, I’m still trying to figure it all out because there may be someone who can make a perfect mix of the two,” he remarked. “I’m not saying to accept it, but at least make art out of it, and that’s what I’m always for, the creative part.”

Method Man’s remarks are particularly significant given his stature in the music world. He is a member of one of the most successful rap groups of all time and a platinum-selling solo artist. The revelation that he has not received any streaming payments surprised many fans but also echoed sentiments shared by other veteran artists.
