MHz and Discovery Acquire French Cop Series ‘Tom & Lola’ for U.S. and Italy

Kino Lorber’s MHz has acquired the new French cop drama “Tom & Lola” for the U.S. market through a pre-sale deal. The series is set to make its debut at this year’s Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre, which starts on Monday.

“Tom & Lola,” a 12-episode series, is about two close friends and fellow police officers who find themselves living and working together following the end of a marriage. The show has also been pre-sold to Discovery in Italy. The series is internationally represented by Mediawan Rights.

Created by Camille Couasse and Sarah Farkas, the series is produced by DEMD Productions, well-known for the light-crime series “In Tandem.” Directed by Jason Roffé, “Tom & Lola” mixes procedural crime storytelling with feel-good family elements. According to Mediawan Rights, it caters to current market preferences for lighthearted crime stories infused with humor and mystery.

Tom and Lola have been best friends since high school but are quite different. Lola is a passionate judicial police captain, while Tom is a more laid-back drug squad officer. When Tom’s marriage ends in divorce, Lola invites him to move in with her.

Lola’s carefree lifestyle faces a challenge with Tom’s arrival, especially as she is already raising two children alone. The situation becomes even more complicated when Tom seeks a transfer to Lola’s division, making them almost inseparable.

DEMD Productions has already achieved success with a similar theme in “In Tandem,” directed by Roffé who helmed 16 episodes of the show. Mediawan Rights highlights the series’ dynamic cop duo and their families as the show’s main strength, believing it will appeal to both traditional broadcasters and streaming platforms globally.

The series is scheduled to screen on Wednesday at the Rendez-Vous in La Havre, where it is anticipated to be one of the event’s highlights.
