Michael Engleman Exits as CMO of Paramount+ & Showtime Amid Layoffs

Michael Engleman, Chief Marketing Officer for Paramount+ Domestic and Paramount+ with Showtime, will be departing from Paramount Global later this month. His decision to leave was communicated in an internal memo.

In June, Co-CEO George Cheeks disclosed that Paramount Global aims to achieve $500 million in cost reductions as the company, weighed down by $14 billion in debt, seeks to improve its financial status. Workforce reductions were anticipated to start this summer, with rumors suggesting they could take place as early as next week, possibly on August 13. The corporate and marketing sectors are expected to be among the most affected, and Engleman’s departure is part of a broader effort to consolidate marketing teams across Paramount for greater efficiency.

In his role as CMO, Engleman supervised consumer marketing, strategy, partnerships, lifecycle marketing, customer care, social, and creative execution for all U.S. campaigns. He reported to Domenic DiMeglio, EVP & CMO of Paramount streaming.

In his farewell note to the staff, Engleman reflected on his tenure. He mentioned that this would be his third chapter at Paramount, starting his career at MTV many years ago. Engleman conveyed that while much has changed in the business, Paramount remains a place that promotes visionary thinking and smart risks.

Engleman joined Paramount Global in July 2019 as CMO & Global Brand Director of Showtime Networks. Prior to that, he served as CMO for TBS and TNT and held the role of EVP, Marketing, Digital, and Global Brand Strategy for Syfy and Chiller.

In his email to the team, Engleman shared his gratitude and excitement for the amazing experiences and partnerships during his time at Paramount. He lauded the team’s creativity and resilience, especially in launching new titles and supporting iconic ones. “Your ingenuity was rocket-fuel that propelled great brands and new businesses,” he noted.

Engleman expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to continue succeeding and carrying Paramount’s visionary spirit into the future. He concluded his message with deep appreciation for the incredible work and, more importantly, the friendships created during his tenure.

Best, Michael
