Michael J. Fox brought down the house this past weekend with an electrifying performance alongside British rock band Coldplay. Despite battling Parkinson’s disease since the ’90s, Fox was in his wheelchair during the surprise collaboration, which only added to the emotional resonance of the moment.

Fox publicly disclosed his Parkinson’s diagnosis back in 1998. Although he continues to work sporadically in acting—with his latest non-documentary roles coming from the 2020s—the Back to the Future star has devoted much of his time to advocating for Parkinson’s research through the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

On Saturday, Coldplay lit up the Glastonbury stage with a special appearance from Fox. Before launching into “Humankind,” lead vocalist and pianist Chris Martin ad-libbed lyrics, engaging with the audience and eventually singling out Fox for a heartfelt welcome.

Martin enthusiastically announced, “With his Chuck Berry riff and the way he punched Biff: ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Michael J. Fox.”

Fox joined Coldplay for “Humankind” and extended his stay on stage to jam to “Fix You,” which added another layer of magic to the evening.

Following the performance, Martin shared a touching revelation, “The main reason we’re in a band is because of Back to the Future,” adding, “So thank you to Michael, our hero.”

This isn’t the first time Fox and Coldplay have shared the stage. Martin’s son Moses is also a massive fan of the Back to the Future series. Back in 2016, in New Jersey, Martin honored his son’s enthusiasm for the iconic film by inviting Fox to recreate one of its most memorable scenes on stage.

During that 2016 performance, Martin called Back to the Future his and his son’s “favorite movie of all time.” After performing “Earth Angel,” much like he did this weekend, Martin brought Fox to the stage. This time, Fox wielded a Les Paul guitar for a high-energy rendition of Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B Goode.”

These jam sessions have cemented the relationship between the legendary actor and the world-renowned band, bridging music and cinematic history in ways few could have anticipated. The collaborations not only serve as a tribute to Fox’s enduring legacy but also underline the impact of Back to the Future on multiple generations.

Each time Fox and Coldplay unite, fans are treated to a unique blend of nostalgia and live music that leaves a lasting impression. The chemistry between them is palpable, making every performance a hallmark event. The scenes are reminiscent of Marty McFly’s iconic performances, leaving everyone, yet again, enchanted and spellbound.

Which jam session is your favorite, and what is the best scene from the whole Back to the Future franchise?
