Michael J. Fox Reflects on “Mind-Blowing” Coldplay Performance at Glastonbury

Michael J. Fox had an extraordinary time performing with Coldplay at the 2024 Glastonbury Festival on Saturday. The actor and Parkinson’s activist joined the band on stage for their hit song “Fix You” during their headlining set at the famous UK music festival.

On Instagram Sunday, Fox expressed his gratitude to Coldplay’s team, including band members Chris Martin, Will Champion, Johnny Buckland, and Guy Berryman, as well as manager Phil Harvey. He shared several photos and described the experience as “f*cking mind-blowing”. One photo featured Fox and his team in front of a sign that read “optimism is a political act.” In his post, Fox wrote, “There is a time for every band and a band for every time. This is @coldplay’s time.”

Adding to the excitement, Fox also posted an image of a sign labeled “Coldplay special guest” and a brief video of the band backstage. The festive spirit and camaraderie backstage were clearly captured in his posts.

During the performance of “Fix You,” Chris Martin praised Fox, citing him as a major inspiration for the band. Martin said, “The main reason we’re in a band is because of watching Back to the Future,” referring to the iconic scene where Fox’s character, Marty McFly, performs “Johnny B. Goode” at a 1955 school dance. Martin continued, “So thank you to our hero forever and one of the most amazing people on Earth, Mr. Michael J. Fox.”

This memorable Glastonbury performance wasn’t the first time Fox and Coldplay have shared a stage. In 2016, they performed together at Metlife Stadium, delivering a rendition of Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode,” taking fans on a nostalgic journey back to the 1985 film.

The Glastonbury set featured Martin singing “Go, Johnny, go, go, go” multiple times during “Fix You,” creating a callback to their past collaboration and further delighting the audience.

The performance drew a star-studded crowd, including Martin’s fiancée Dakota Johnson, and celebrities like Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg from the Mission: Impossible series, as well as Gillian Anderson.
