Michael Jackson’s Driver’s License Auctions for Thousands

After 17 bids at Heritage Auctions, a collector paid $35,000 for the late Michael Jackson’s driver’s license. Despite some creases, particularly on the verso, Heritage Auctions noted that it was in good condition.

The mid-’80s document, issued by the state of California, was held by Jackson, who passed away from cardiac arrest in 2009. It was clarified that the item was not signed by hand, as the signature on it is a compressed copy of Jackson’s live signature.

The driver’s license measures 3 ½ inches by 2 ¼ inches and features a passport photo of the pop legend with a neutral expression. This sale follows the auction of Jackson’s black-and-white leather jacket from a 1984 Pepsi commercial, which fetched $306,000 at Propstore last November.

The most expensive Michael Jackson item ever sold by Heritage Auctions was his crystal-studded glove from the mid-’80s Victory Tour. This Swarovski-embedded glove, accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from David Miller, sold for $112,500 in 2020.

Michael Jackson’s legacy continues to thrive. With several successful albums and numerous Grammy wins, he left behind three children, Prince, Paris, and Bigi, who remain close despite their busy lives as adults. Jackson is undeniably one of the greatest artists of all time, but his fame also brought controversy, particularly with accusations of child molestation at his renowned Neverland ranch.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film aims to offer a personal look into Jackson’s life, his rise to fame, and recreate his most iconic performances.
