Michael Mosley’s Widow Finds Solace in Tributes Amid Family Troubles

The widow of television doctor Michael Mosley has shared that her husband’s influence is deeply felt through the lives he touched and the difference he made.

Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley has revealed that her family is struggling to rebuild their lives, but the messages of support and the public’s outpouring of grief have been profoundly moving for them.

Michael Mosley, known for his “Just One Thing” podcast series, passed away from natural causes last month at the age of 67 after going missing on the Greek island of Symi.

He had been walking in intense heat without a mobile phone, and his body was found five days later in a rocky area near Agia Marina beach.

His wife, often mentioned affectionately in his broadcasts, has pledged to continue the work they started together.

Ahead of a dedicated day on the BBC to remember him, Dr. Bailey Mosley shared, “We are trying to put our lives back together without Michael and it’s very hard.”

She added, “Not all the time. We can smile and laugh too. As well as comfort each other.”

Her statement continued, “Grief can feel overwhelming. Light and beautiful. Catch you by surprise. Feel like the weight of a stone or a sharp pain. It changes unexpectedly.”

She expanded, “As people often say, it’s a journey, not all sad and you take each day at a time.”

She emphasized, “The extraordinary outpouring of grief and gratitude for Michael and how he has changed so many lives is very moving, including the heartfelt thoughts and kindness extended to us as a family, for which we are incredibly grateful.”

Dr. Bailey Mosley expressed hope, “We sincerely hope that we can continue to share his positive message going forward. Because while we are learning to live without Michael, he is ever-present through the lives that he touched and the difference he made.”

The BBC’s “Just One Thing Day” on Friday, named after his BBC Radio 4 podcast, will focus on Dr. Mosley’s approach of encouraging healthy habits through simple changes or routines to improve health and wellbeing.

She shared, “The BBC’s celebration of Michael’s life tomorrow with Just One Thing Day is wonderful.”

She added, “A day dedicated to the impact he had on people’s lives and to celebrate his legacy within broadcasting and beyond – it’s humbling and delightful all at once. We are so grateful.”

Michael Mosley is credited with popularizing the 5:2 diet, a form of intermittent fasting, and frequently pushed his body to its limits during his research into health and wellbeing.

He initially trained as a doctor in London before transitioning into media.

He presented various science programs and films, including the BBC series “Trust Me, I’m A Doctor,” which explored healthcare in Britain.
