Michael Strahan and GMA Hosts Replaced in Latest Summer Shake-Up

It seems the anchors at Good Morning America are making the most of their last summer vacation opportunity!

With only one week of summer left and Labor Day just around the corner, GMA’s main anchors Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan have taken a final day off. Though they’ve already enjoyed their share of summer breaks, usually staggered, this week began with three new yet familiar faces hosting the show.

On Monday, August 26, Robin, George, and Michael were all absent from GMA. Their spots were filled by Gio Benitez, Whit Johnson, and Sade Baderinwa.

The GMA trio has had a bustling summer, filled with personal milestones—some joyous, others bittersweet. Michael has spent much of the year caring for his daughter Isabella, who was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, the most common type of cancerous brain tumor in children. She received extensive treatment at Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center in Durham, North Carolina.

Earlier this summer, Isabella, who is twin sister to Sophia, celebrated the end of her cancer treatment. Just last week, Michael and her mother Jean Muggli were with her as she returned to USC for her sophomore year.

George Stephanopoulos also experienced changes at home. He and his wife Ali Wentworth are now empty-nesters, as their two daughters, Elliott and Harper, are away at college. Elliott is entering her senior year at Brown University after a semester abroad in London, while Harper just began her sophomore year at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. Incidentally, GMA co-host Lara Spencer’s daughter, Kat, is also a sophomore there.

After dropping Harper off at school last week, Ali Wentworth shared her thoughts on Instagram about the college move-in experience, writing: “Who doesn’t love college move-in day? No air-conditioning. Need a degree in engineering to assemble anything. Who needs a shower caddy? And now I’m crying cause I already miss her…”

Lastly, Robin Roberts and her wife Amber Laign celebrated the 19th anniversary of their first ever date earlier this summer. “Ohhhh what a night! 19 years ago mutual friends Alex and Bert set us up on a blind date… One that the 2 of us had canceled several times! So glad we finally said yes…and then said I do. We wish all an equally #blessedweekend,” she shared on Instagram.

The couple’s celebrations don’t end there, as they are also looking forward to marking their first wedding anniversary on September 8.
