Michelle Obama (NBC)

Michelle Obama has a remarkable sense of style, and her recent photos during a trip to a bookstore have left fans in awe. The former First Lady took to Instagram to celebrate National Book Lovers Day and shared several images of her browsing through books, wearing an outfit that got everyone talking.

The “Becoming” author sported a long braid that draped way past her waist, strategically styled to the side of her head. She paired the eye-catching hairstyle with a navy baseball cap, ensuring her look stayed intact. Michelle opted for an oversized jacket, a bright green T-shirt, and fitted sweatpants, completing her sporty look with a pair of sneakers.

Fans quickly poured in their admiration for her fashion sense, with comments highlighting her graceful transition from White House elegance to everyday chic. One fan commented, “Michelle’s White House style is giving!” Another noted, “Yes for the hair! We love you.” A third admirer simply said, “Loving the braid!”

Michelle uses her social media platform to promote causes that are important to her and occasionally offers glimpses into her private life with her family. Both Michelle and her husband, former President Barack Obama, are generally private, especially regarding their daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23. However, they do share tributes on special occasions, like birthdays.

The family remains close-knit, with Malia and Sasha even choosing to live together in Los Angeles, where they are both currently based. Meanwhile, Michelle and Barack have stayed in Washington D.C. The year has been particularly tough for the Obama family, as Michelle recently lost her beloved mother, Marian Robinson, in May.

On what would have been her mother Marian’s 87th birthday on July 29, Michelle paid a heartfelt tribute. She spoke about the difficulty of mourning her mother’s loss while also celebrating the love and joy Marian brought into their lives.

“Today would have been my mom’s 87th birthday,” Michelle wrote. “These past couple of months have been tough without her, and I am so grateful for the outpouring of love you’ve shown our family along the way. Even though she’s no longer with us, I still think she’s worth celebrating.”

Michelle detailed what she cherished most about her mother, saying, “What I loved most about my mom might have been this: She always felt like she was enough.” She reminisced about her mother’s contentment with their modest lifestyle, even recounting Marian’s creative ways of making holidays special and maintaining her own appearance with minimal resources.

“The tiny two-bedroom walk-up apartment we used to live in; the faux chimney she would fashion for us out of cardboard during the holidays; the at-home hair-dos she would give herself using the oven and a hot comb — she was always happy with what she had,” shared Michelle.

Michelle expanded on the profound impact Marian had on those around her, from family members to White House staff, saying, “She did that countless times for me and my brother Craig. She did it for her family and friends. She did it for the staff at the White House. She did it for everyone she knew.”

Concluding her tribute, Michelle committed to carrying forward her mother’s legacy by uplifting others. “So today, on her birthday, I am celebrating the immense power there was in her enoughness. And I am committing myself to carrying forward her legacy of lifting up others the best I can. Love you, mom. And happy birthday.”
