Mickey Guyton Shares Key Lesson Learned from Shania Twain

Mickey Guyton was certainly impressed much by Shania Twain!

Guyton opened for Twain on the star’s Queen of Me Tour last year — and left with the wisdom that man, it feels good to be a woman.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Sunday, Aug. 18, Guyton was asked about the most important lesson she’d learned from the “You’re Still the One” singer, 58, during their time together on the road last July.

“Listen. Shania just taught me just to be the badass beep that you need to be,” Guyton, 41, said. “That was one thing that I love about her. Because especially in country music, being a woman, being a beautiful woman like she is, she was not afraid of her body and her sexiness, and that was something that I really, really was inspired by.”

Julianne Hough, who was also a guest on Cohen’s show, chimed in to say that she was a big fan of Twain’s live concert videos back in the day, and was particularly wowed by the star’s “deep squat.”

“She does not care,” Guyton added. “And I feel like you should be strong and be confident in who you are and I love that about her.”

Twain kicked off her Queen of Me Tour in April 2023 in support of her newest album of the same name, and wrapped the tour in November after nearly 80 shows. Guyton served as the opening act for a handful of North American shows in July 2023.

Upon wrapping the gig, Guyton shared a photo of her and Twain together to social media, writing that the star was her “person” growing up.

“I used to listen to her music on a loop as a teenager, so to have the opportunity to open for her means the absolute world to me,” she wrote. “The #QueenOfMeTour was such a surreal, amazing experience that I’ll never forget. Thank you so much Shania for letting me be a part of it.”

Twain, meanwhile, gave Guyton a shoutout of her own in a social media post that thanked her opening acts, which also included Kelsea Ballerini, BRELAND, Lindsay Ell, Hailey Whitters, Priscilla Block and Robyn Ottolini.

“I’m so lucky to have been able to have such wonderful up & coming talent on the road opening for the #QueenOfMeTour!!” she wrote. “I’m so in awe of each and every one of you and your incredible talent.”

Guyton released her debut studio album Remember Her Name in 2021. She is hitting the road on tour in September, and recently shared a slew of new songs, including “Scary Love” and “Make It Me.”

“[I] try not to cry just cause it’s been really cool to see, you know, country music. Black country coming to the table and watching Black people and the culture embrace us,” she told PEOPLE in June at the 2024 BET Awards. “It’s something that has been so needed, and it’s just a beautiful thing to see.”
