Morgan Wallen and Megan Moroney Romance Rumors Explained

Over the years, there has been a lot of speculation that country stars Morgan Wallen and Megan Moroney were secretly together, or at least were at some point. These rumors took flight when Moroney released “Tennessee Orange” in 2022. Fans speculated that the song was about Wallen after she posted cover art on Instagram, wearing a Tennessee Volunteers shirt, which they believed to be Wallen’s. She confirmed on SiriusXM’s “The Highway” that the shirt was indeed Wallen’s but downplayed its significance, stating, “It is his shirt. But it’s just a shirt”. Meanwhile, Wallen added to the rumors by releasing his own song, “Tennessee Fan,” and leaving flirty comments on Moroney’s posts.

In an interview with People about her “Highway” appearance, Moroney admitted that she didn’t expect to reveal her connection to Wallen. “I was honestly shocked that I even said that,” she confessed. Nonetheless, she played coy about whether “Tennessee Orange” was about Wallen, saying only that all her songs are about people. “If I told people who it’s about, then they would ask me who ‘Sleep on My Side’ is about. I can’t tell you that because it’s not a nice song!” However, Moroney has since clarified her relationship with Wallen.

After years of speculation, Megan Moroney confirmed in a “Call Her Daddy” podcast on July 31, 2024, that she and Morgan Wallen did indeed hook up at one point in time, though they never officially dated. “Never exclusively,” Moroney asserted. “I have so tried to avoid that in every single interview I’ve ever done. But we’re here now and time has passed and all is well.” She shared that they met before the COVID-19 outbreak through mutual friend Jon Langston, while she was still in school. “We were friends for a long time,” she said. “We were not just friends, and now we’re friends.”

Reflecting on their relationship, Moroney believes that their busy schedules might have been why their rumored romance didn’t work out. She also cited Wallen’s preference for privacy as the reason she didn’t address the rumors sooner, saying, “It just feels awkward talking about it.” Nevertheless, she insists there is no bad blood between them and maintains her stance on keeping her song inspirations private.

Megan Moroney sparked new rumors about her love life when she shared a photo on Instagram Stories with a mystery man. The snap, captured by Whiskey Riff, showed Moroney taking a selfie while her rumored beau kissed her forehead and wrapped his arm around her waist. Speculations arose that the man was Riley Green, known for his hits like “There Was This Girl” and “Half of Me.” However, Green quickly refuted the rumors with a post on his Instagram Stories, featuring Johnny Cash’s “It Ain’t Me, Babe,” and tagging Whiskey Riff.

Despite the buzz surrounding her romantic life, Moroney asserted during her “Call Her Daddy” interview that she is currently single and happy. “I sleep so good. Like nobody’s son is stressing me out,” she joked. The “No Caller ID” hitmaker mentioned that being single allows her to be more present and enjoy this particular phase of her life with her loved ones, including her girlfriends. “Everything is so new still so I’m enjoying not having to worry about that part of things,” she added.
