Motley Crue Covers ‘Fight for Your Right’ on ‘Cancelled’ EP

Motley Crue has thrilled fans with the release of their cover of Beastie Boys’ “Fight for Your Right,” a track from their forthcoming EP, Cancelled. The new cover features John 5 on guitar, marking the first time he has replaced Mick Mars in Motley Crue’s lineup. Over the past year, the band has routinely incorporated “Fight for Your Right” into their live sets.

This release is the second track from the three-song Cancelled EP. It follows the original song “Dogs of War,” which was made available in April. The EP will be completed with its title track and is set for a full release on Oct. 4. Fans can already pre-order it.

Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee spoke last year about the inspiration behind the EP during an interview with Bill Maher on the Club Random podcast. He explained that the idea for the title track stemmed from the band’s astonishment at never being “cancelled” despite their outrageous antics over the years.

“There was this article that was like, ‘How did Motley Crue ever not get cancelled?’ And we were like, ‘Fuck, we got to write a song about that because we didn’t ever get it,'” Lee explained. “We snuck in under the whatever threshold, wherever that was, where we got away with fucking murder.”

Bassist Nikki Sixx had a similar defiant spirit when discussing their new song “Dogs of War” in a recent conversation with UCR. “The whole fun thing is that in our life, in general, it seems like everyone’s always been trying to kill us, kill our career, and so it’s fun in the video that you can’t kill us,” he said. “Even when we die, we end up snorting our own ashes and coming back.”

The EP Cancelled aims to capture that rebellious energy, showcasing both new material and inventive covers. The addition of John 5 on guitar has brought a fresh dynamic to their music, which fans have already celebrated in their live performances.
