Copley High School and Mount Union graduate Carrie Coon is up for an Emmy Award.

The actress, known for portraying Margo Dunne in “Gone Girl,” the twin sister of Ben Affleck’s character Nick, was nominated for lead actress in a drama series for her role as Bertha Russell in HBO’s “The Gilded Age.”

The other nominees in the category include:

  • Jennifer Aniston, “The Morning Show” (Apple TV+)
  • Maya Erskine, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” (Amazon Prime Video)
  • Anna Sawai, “Shōgun” (FX)
  • Imelda Staunton, “The Crown” (Netflix)
  • Reese Witherspoon, “The Morning Show” (Apple TV+)

Coon’s husband, actor and playwright Tracy Letts, was also nominated. Letts received a nomination for outstanding guest actor in a drama series for his role in “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” also on HBO. In this fictionalized, yet fact-based series, Letts portrayed Jack McKinney, who transitioned from an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers during their 1977 NBA championship season to becoming the Lakers’ head coach.

Nominations for the 76th Primetime Emmys were announced Wednesday by actors Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale in Hollywood, covering categories such as best comedy, drama, limited series, and TV movie, among others. The winners will be revealed on September 15 (ABC, 8 p.m. EDT), exactly eight months after the 75th Primetime Emmys were presented on Fox, which were postponed due to last year’s writers’ and actors’ strikes.

FX’s “Shōgun,” adapted from James Clavell’s novel of the same name, topped the nominations list with 25 nominations. The network’s restaurant dramedy “The Bear,” which aired its third season last month, garnered 23 nominations, setting a record for the most nominations by a comedy series in one year. Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” and HBO’s “True Detective: Night Country” followed closely behind with 21 and 19 nominations, respectively.

In January, FX’s “The Bear” and HBO’s “Succession” tied for the most wins, each taking home six awards. However, the dysfunctional family drama “Succession” ended in spring 2023, leaving the field open for a new series to succeed the Roys as best drama.

Eligible programs aired between June 1, 2023, and May 31 of this year in all categories. ABC has not yet named a host for the September show (Anthony Anderson emceed January’s show on Fox). The event will be broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater and will stream the next day on Hulu.
