Mourners Gather for Funeral of American Activist Killed by Israeli Troops

In Nablus, West Bank, mourners gathered on Monday for the funeral of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a U.S.-Turkish dual national activist. Eygi was reportedly shot and killed by Israeli forces during a demonstration against settlements in the occupied territory. The funeral procession drew dozens of attendees, including prominent officials from the Western-backed Palestinian Authority.

Eygi was shot on Friday during a protest in Nablus, a situation described by Jonathan Pollak, an Israeli peace activist who witnessed the events. Pollak noted that Eygi posed no threat at the time and stated that the shooting occurred amidst a period of relative calm following previous clashes between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian demonstrators.

According to Pollak, he observed Israeli soldiers fire at the protestors while stationed on the roof of a nearby building. Eygi was struck in the head by one of the bullets. The Israeli military has released a statement indicating they are investigating reports pertaining to the incident.
