A suspect wanted for murder was apprehended after falling through the ceiling of a home where he was hiding in the attic, according to the US Marshals Service.

Deario Wilkerson, 20, was taken into custody on Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of Troy Cunningham, whose body was discovered in Memphis on April 2.

The US Marshals revealed that their Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF), in collaboration with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Memphis Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Teams, tracked Wilkerson to a residence in Tennessee.

Before entering the property, authorities surrounded the house as part of their operation.

As the search unfolded, Wilkerson unexpectedly fell through the ceiling from the attic, the US Marshals reported in a press release.

Fortunately, the 20-year-old did not sustain any injuries and was taken into custody “with no further incident.”

Wilkerson is one of three suspects identified in connection with Cunningham’s murder, as noted by the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office in communications with NBC News.

Reports indicate that the suspects allegedly stole Cunningham’s firearm and subsequently used it against him as he attempted to escape. Cunningham suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the head during this confrontation.

In May, authorities issued a warrant for Wilkerson’s arrest on charges of first-degree murder and reckless endangerment involving a deadly weapon.

The other two suspects linked to the murder were arrested and charged prior to the dramatic events of Monday.
