Netflix Adds 30+ Shows and Movies Next Week—Only One is a Must-Watch

Book adaptations have given us some of the most enjoyable entertainment this year, including TV shows like A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, Bad Monkey, and Pachinko, as well as films like It Ends With Us and The Bikeriders. Next week, Netflix is adding another exciting title to this roster: a star-studded adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand’s New York Times-bestselling novel The Perfect Couple featuring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber.

In the next seven days, Netflix will introduce over 30 new shows and movies, including documentaries like Apollo 13: Survival and Season 8 of Selling Sunset. Among these, The Perfect Couple stands out as a must-watch.

This new series is a murder mystery that Knives Out fans are bound to enjoy. It boasts a top-notch cast including The White Lotus stars Meghann Fahy and Eve Hewson and is directed by Susanne Bier, known for her work on Bird Box, The Night Manager, and The Undoing.

The series, set against the picturesque New England backdrop of Nantucket, combines talent with a gripping story. Netflix describes the six-episode series, set to release on Sept. 5, as follows: “Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson), a bride marrying into one of Nantucket’s wealthiest families, faces suspense when the high-society wedding planned by the groom’s mother (Nicole Kidman) takes a dark turn.”

“When a dead body is discovered on the beach, the celebration quickly turns to suspicion. As secrets emerge, an investigation ensues, making everyone a suspect.”

The body found in Nantucket Harbor is identified as Merritt Monaco, the bride’s best friend and maid of honor. The narrative, told from multiple perspectives including the bride-to-be, the groom’s parents, and the local police chief, reveals complex relationships, hidden motives, and past misdeeds.

Aside from The Perfect Couple, Netflix has a slew of other releases next week. These include notable third-party titles like The Expendables series, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Field of Dreams.

One more reason to be excited about The Perfect Couple is its showrunner Jenna Lamia from Good Girls. The executive producers include Shawn Levy from Stranger Things. Although I’m not typically a fan of murder mysteries, this one seems impossible to resist.
