Netflix Reveals Premiere Date, Teaser, Photos for Tyler Perry’s ‘The Six Triple Eight’

Netflix announced Wednesday morning that “The Six Triple Eight,” a World War II drama directed by Tyler Perry and starring Kerry Washington, will be released in select theaters on December 6. The film will debut on the streaming platform on December 20.

The announcement was accompanied by a teaser and a series of first-look images.

Based on Kevin M. Hymel’s article “Fighting A Two-Front War,” published in WWII History Magazine, “The Six Triple Eight” is inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas during WWII. Despite facing racism, sexism, and grueling working conditions, these women were dedicated to serving their country with honor and distinction. Their extraordinary mission and determination helped them deliver hope and break down barriers.

Kerry Washington stars as Major Charity Adams, the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. The cast also includes Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Jeanté Godlock, Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, Sam Waterston, and Oprah Winfrey.

Directed by Tyler Perry, who also wrote the script, the film is produced by Nicole Avant, Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland, Keri Selig, and Carlota Espinosa, with Peter Guber and Kerry Washington serving as executive producers. The soundtrack features an original song titled “The Journey,” written by 15-time Oscar-nominated songwriter Diane Warren and performed by Oscar winner H.E.R.
