Netflix has announced that the much-anticipated second part of The Platform universe will be released on October 4. The first film had immense popularity, being one of the most-watched Spanish movies on the streaming service.

Released in 2019, the original The Platform movie ranked fifth in the non-English film top ten category, accumulating nearly 83 million views. By July 2020, Netflix reported that the movie had been watched by 56 million households within its first four weeks, with its popularity soaring even more during the COVID-19 pandemic-induced lockdown.

The Platform 2 features notable actors like Milena Smit (The Snow Girl), Hovik Keuchkerian (Money Heist), Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones), and Óscar Jaenada (Luis Miguel: The Series).

The sequel is directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, who also directed the first film. Carlos Juárez, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, and Raquel Perea are producing the follow-up movie, all part of the Basque Films team.

A sneak peek of the latest installment was made available on Thursday, providing fans with a grim look at what to expect in the second sci-fi horror movie. In this installment, residents are confined to a large, tall building referred to as a “Vertical Self-Management Center.”

“As a mysterious leader imposes their rule in the Platform, a new resident becomes embroiled in the battle against this controversial method to fight the brutal feeding system,” reads a plot synopsis. “But when eating from the wrong plate becomes a death sentence, how far would you be willing to go to save your life?”
