Netflix to Launch NBA Series ‘Starting 5’ Featuring Star Players

Netflix announced on Wednesday the launch of a new sports series titled “Starting 5,” offering an exclusive look behind the scenes of the National Basketball Association’s 2023-2024 season games.

Streaming services are increasingly turning to sports content to enhance viewership and boost advertising revenue.

Earlier this year, Netflix expanded its sports offerings, signing content deals with World Wrestling Entertainment and the National Football League to feature live programming.

The upcoming series “Starting 5” will be a 10-part venture, spotlighting notable NBA stars like Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis, and Jayson Tatum.

Scheduled to premiere on October 9, the series is a collaborative effort produced by LeBron James’ digital media company, Uninterrupted, in partnership with Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions and ex-NFL quarterback Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions.

Netflix has previously found success with other behind-the-scenes sports series, notably the ‘Formula 1: Drive to Survive’ documentary, which significantly boosted the global appeal of the sport.
