With fewer entries due to the shortened TV season, this year’s Emmy nominations likely won’t trigger any protest campaigns. FX, however, has reason to celebrate with an impressive 93 nominations, including 25 for “Shogun” and 23 for “The Bear.”

The nominations finally recognize critical favorites like FX’s “Reservation Dogs” and “What We Do in the Shadows.” New competitors, including “Shogun” actors Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada, also got nods.

Lily Gladstone and Kali Reis made history as the first Indigenous actresses nominated for Emmys. Gladstone was nominated for “Under the Bridge” and Reis for “True Detective: Night Country.” “Reservation Dogs” snagged a nomination for best comedy series for its final season, and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai from the series is up for lead actor in a comedy.

The Emmy Awards show will take place on Sept. 15 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and will air on ABC.

HBO faces heightened competition this year due to the absence of “Succession,” its usual heavy-hitter. This absence gave an edge to Netflix and FX, with Netflix leading with 107 nominations for shows like “Baby Reindeer” and “Ripley.” FX follows with 93 nominations, thanks mainly to “The Bear” and “Shogun.” HBO earned 91 nominations, while Apple TV+ received 70 nods, even without “Ted Lasso,” for shows like “The Morning Show” and “Slow Horses.”

Selena Gomez finally received well-deserved recognition for her role in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” Until now, only her co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short received best actor nominations. Gomez now competes for best actress against Quinta Brunson, Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, Jean Smart, and Kristin Wiig.

“The Morning Show” on Apple TV+ saw its first nomination for outstanding drama. The show’s third season dived into current events, such as a corporation hack, a media merger, and the fallout from the Jan. 6 insurrection. Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon both earned lead actress nominations. Jon Hamm joins previous winner Billy Crudup and nominee Mark Duplass in the supporting actor category. Nicole Beharie, Greta Lee, Karen Pittman, and Holland Taylor all received nominations for supporting actress.

Emma Stone, who won Best Actress at this year’s Oscars for “Poor Things,” was notably snubbed for her role in Showtime’s “The Curse.” While Stone was predicted to be a possible lead actress contender, she did not receive a nomination, nor did the show itself.

Other Oscar winners fared better. Robert Downey Jr. received a supporting actor nomination for HBO’s “The Sympathizer,” where he portrays four characters. Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who won Best Supporting Actress for “The Holdovers,” also earned an Emmy nomination for her guest appearance on “Only Murders in the Building.”

Interestingly, out of the three actresses who have portrayed Queen Elizabeth II in “The Crown,” two received nominations. Claire Foy, who won the lead actress Emmy in 2018 and a guest actress Emmy in 2021, is nominated again for her guest role. Foy appeared in the series’ final episode, sharing screen time with Olivia Colman. However, Colman did not receive a nomination due to not meeting the nomination qualifications, as her screen time was too brief. Imelda Staunton, the current Queen Elizabeth II on the show, is nominated for best actress.
