New Films by Mendoza, Das, Lin Illuminate Busan’s Jiseok Section

The latest feature films by established Asian directors including Brillante Mendoza, Tom Lin, and Rima Das have been selected for the Jiseok competition section of the Busan International Film Festival.

The festival also revealed its lineup for the New Currents competition, which serves as an important platform for discovering emerging talent.

This year’s New Currents competition includes two films each from Japan and South Korea, along with entries from Myanmar, Iran, Kazakhstan, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Indonesia.

The festival, which will run from October 2 to 11, 2024, plans to announce its full selection on Tuesday.

Films in the New Currents competition include:

“As the River Goes By,” directed by Charles Hu (China)

“For Rana,” directed by Iman Yazdi (Iran)

“The Height of the Coconut Trees,” directed by Du Jie (Japan)

“Kaneko’s Commissar,” directed by Furukawa Go (Japan)

“The Land of Morning Calm,” directed by Park Ri-woong (South Korea)

“Ma – Cry of Silence,” directed by The Maw Nang (Myanmar, Korea, Singapore, France, Norway, Qatar)

“Montages of a Modern Motherhood,” directed by Oliver Siu Kuen Chan (Hong Kong)

“Tale of the Land,” directed by Loeloe Henda (Indonesia, Philippines, Qatar)

“Waterdrop,” directed by Choi Jongyong (South Korea)
