Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming film Trap, starring Josh Hartnett and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The film revolves around a man and his daughter who find themselves ensnared in a perilous situation inside a concert hall, besieged by a serial killer with 30,000 potential suspects. The movie also features original songs by Saleka Shyamalan, performing as Lady Raven. This project marks the second significant family collaboration for M. Night Shyamalan, following his daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan’s directorial debut with The Watchers.

Trap is scheduled to hit theaters next month. The film represents a bold new direction for both Shyamalan and Hartnett, challenging them to step out of their usual comfort zones. Unlike Shyamalan’s typical, more intimate settings, Trap demands a larger, more dynamic set to accommodate its thriller narrative.

“It’s a pivot for me,” Hartnett commented recently. “But I try to make all of my roles pivots. If you’re playing the same thing again and again, it gets boring to the audience. Working with M. Night was one of the best experiences of my career. I think he’s a true Artist in the capital-A sense of the word. And I think people are gonna be really surprised and excited about the movie we made. It’s very bizarre, very dark, and it’s wild.”

The premise of Trap centers around a father and his teenage daughter attending a pop concert, only to discover they’re at the heart of a dark, ominous event. The film stars Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue, Saleka Shyamalan, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill. It is produced by Ashwin Rajan, Marc Bienstock, and M. Night Shyamalan, with Steven Schneider serving as the executive producer.

Sayombhu Mukdeeprom, renowned for his work on Call Me by Your Name, serves as the director of photography. Debbie de Villa, known for The Hating Game, takes on the role of production designer. The film is edited by Noémie Preiswerk, with music composed by Herdís Stefánsdóttir, who previously worked on Knock at the Cabin. Susan Jacobs, the music supervisor for Old, also contributes her expertise, and Caroline Duncan, known for her costume design in Old, lends her talent to the film. Casting is managed by Douglas Aibel, of Asteroid City fame.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents Trap, produced by Blinding Edge Pictures and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and will be available in theaters nationwide on August 9, 2024. International screenings will commence on August 1, 2024.
