RIDGEWOOD, NJ – Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer vacation and the beginning of the new school year. Students and staff in Ridgewood will return for their first day on Tuesday, initiating a week filled with various activities and events that kick off the 2024-2025 academic year.

On Tuesday, September 3, Ridgewood Public Schools will welcome back students for their first day. In the evening, the Planning Board will convene a meeting at Village Hall, starting at 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, September 4, the Education Center will host a Lunch Aide Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sports enthusiasts can look forward to a girls’ tennis match against Fair Lawn at 4:15 p.m. and a girls’ volleyball scrimmage against Passaic County Technical Institute at Ridgewood High School, also at 4:15 p.m. Later, the Village Council will conduct a work session at 7:30 p.m. in Village Hall.

Thursday, September 5, brings back-to-school nights for two local elementary schools. Somerville Elementary School will begin their event at 6:30 p.m., while Willard Elementary School follows with its own at 7:15 p.m.

The week continues with several athletic events on Friday, September 6. Ridgewood High School will host a girls’ soccer game against Chatham at 4:15 p.m., alongside a girls’ tennis match against Paramus at the same time and location. Meanwhile, the boys’ soccer team will travel to Chatham for their game, also starting at 4:15 p.m. Additionally, the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce will hold a car show on E. Ridgewood Ave. at 6 p.m., providing an evening of community fun.

Saturday, September 7, rounds out the week with a girls’ volleyball tournament at Bloomfield beginning at 8:30 a.m., and a cross-country season opener at Darlington County Park at 8:45 a.m. Sports events close with a football game at Montclair scheduled for 1 p.m.

This busy schedule of activities and events marks an energetic start to the school year in Ridgewood, ensuring that students and the community alike have much to engage with and look forward to.
