Nicolas Cage Cast as John Madden in Upcoming Movie

Nicolas Cage is reportedly set to take on the role of John Madden in an upcoming film. According to multiple reports, this film isn’t a typical biopic. Instead, it will focus on the “origin story of Madden NFL, one of the biggest video game franchises of all time.”

Cage will be working under the direction of David O. Russell, a Golden Globe Award winner famous for films like American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook. Russell is also well-known in the sports film genre, notably for his work on The Fighter, featuring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale.

This isn’t Cage’s only big move in Hollywood recently. Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have secured the North American rights to The Surfer, another film starring Cage. In this film, Cage portrays a father who returns to his beachside hometown in Australia along with his son after establishing a life in the U.S. However, returning home isn’t as straightforward as it appears. A local gang of surfers, who claim ownership of the hometown beach at Luna Bay, create chaos when Cage’s character confronts them. The film is slated for release in 2025.
