Nicole Scherzinger Says She Felt ‘Discarded’ on ‘Masked Singer’

Nicole Scherzinger has officially departed from The Masked Singer. She was absent last season due to her involvement in a play, and she also won’t be returning this season. Nicole has announced her participation in a new reality competition show, but the spotlight is now on her debut role in a Broadway musical.

During a promotional interview for the musical, Nicole expressed feeling “discarded” by her industry.

Nicole Scherzinger is gearing up for her first-ever Broadway role, and she couldn’t be more thrilled. In a recent interview, she mentioned how she feels a deep connection to her role due to her experiences of being “discarded” by the entertainment industry.

Nicole will be playing the role of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. She previously left The Masked Singer to perform this character in London in 2023. Now that the play has moved to Broadway, Nicole is fulfilling a lifelong dream.

“It’s always been my lifelong dream to go to Broadway,” Nicole shared with Andrew Lloyd Webber, her director in Sunset Boulevard. “Can you believe I’ve never been to Broadway? I always say I’m the greatest thing to never happen to Broadway.”

Norma Desmond, Nicole’s character, is a faded silent film star desperate to return to Hollywood but considered “aged out.” Nicole finds this relatable.

“I’m 46 years old,” she said. “I’ve never been more strong—physically, mentally, emotionally. I’m in my prime. There is no better time for me to create work that is meaningful in this world. You’re so fully, have so much to give, and people have discarded you, and dismissed you and said ‘Your time’s up.'”

The public largely knows Sunset Boulevard from the Billy Wilder movie, where Gloria Swanson made the role of Norma Desmond iconic. Now, Nicole has the chance to leave her mark on the character for the American audience.

Sunset Boulevard is a musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and inspired by the movie. It tells the story of Norma Desmond, who lives in a decaying mansion in Los Angeles and sees a chance to return to the big screen when she meets a young screenwriter. However, the story unfolds with elements of romance and tragedy.

Nicole is also working with an incredibly accomplished composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, whose accolades include an Oscar, four Grammys, an Emmy, and seven Tonys, including a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Sunset Boulevard will begin its performances at the St. James Theatre in New York City on Sept. 28, with its official opening set for Oct. 20.
